Celtic Jam

A celtic jam session is an informal get-together to socialise and share music with others, crossing all social and demographic boundaries. No sheet music or music stands needed, musicians simply come together and learn tunes from each other. It’s a popular custom that has stood the test of time.

Celtic Jam continues this tradition. We’re a  diverse group of instrumentalists who meet each Wednesday night  to play and share tunes we love, all by ear.  And true to our Australian melting-pot culture, these tunes come from Ireland, Scotland, Australia, eastern Canada, Sweden… the Celtic world is incredibly diverse.

Celtic Jam Slow Session, Box Hill Arts Centre, (Melbourne)

A weekly easy-going session open to all interested celtic or prospective celtic players!  Find us in the lounge, in the middle of the Arts Centre.
$10 per session.  From 2023, we’re moving to Thursdays  7:30pm – 9pm.

First session for 2023:  Thursday, February 2, 7:30pm – 9pm, $10

We are a very friendly group of players who love celtic tunes played not fast!  We usually learn a tune each session from one of our members or guest artist,  and play through our common repertoire.  Ear learning is encouraged, but we also provide  sheet music.  We’d love to see you there!

Out next gigs are:

Sunday February 12, 9am – 12pm, Alphington Farmers’ Market
Saturday March 18, 10pm – 1pm, Carlton Farmers’ Market
Saturday April 22, 10pm – 1pm, Carlton Farmers’ Market

Celtic Jam Online

These sessions took place when we were unable to meet up in person in Melbourne. Here’s hoping we’ve moved past the need to move online, but if it happens again the sessions will run again.  We enjoyed learning tunes from a range of international and Australian artists, both big names and local heroes.  Get in touch to be added to the session mailing list, if you’d like to join in any future ones.
