Contradance is a hugely popular form of dancing, originally from New England. Once you try it, you’ll realise why! Add to the mix a dynamic live band and you know you’re in for a fun night. Laura Risk (fiddle) and Rachel Aucoin (piano), from Canada, are premier musicians for contradance in North America and we are in awe to be hosting them for a dance on our side of the globe. They will be joined by two of Australia’s top dance players, Pria Schwall-Kearney (fiddle) and Kit Joyce (accordion). The dance caller, Jeanette Mill (Canberra) is once again running the show, and you’ll be in good hands. Whether or not you’ve tried contradancing before, you’ll be able to join in and discover why it has stayed popular across the generations. No partner or experience necessary.
All profits from the 2018 Contradance will go to Community Music Victoria (CMVic).
Community Music Victoria is a not-for-profit, membership-based association that supports, promotes and facilitates music-making among Victorian communities. Thanks to CMVic, the number of community music groups around Victoria has increased considerably. The organisation is leading the way in training new music leaders, facilitating new groups, advocating for community music in arts organisations and community health programs, and drawing in Victorians from all walks of life to participate in music-making. Bring your wallets for drinks, supper and a silent auction, all in suppport of CMVic!
